[Chateau Sociando Mallet 2017]
James Suckling rating: 93/100
The history of Chateau Sociando Mallet dates back to the early 17th century, located in the Haut-Medoc region known for its production of high-quality wines, with a vineyard area of 56 hectares. The estate's soil is composed of gravel soil on top of a subsoil made of clay and limestone. The estate owner Jean Gautreau inherited the personality of his ancestors, believing that exceptional quality does not need external validation, and therefore did not participate in the 1855 Médoc Grand Cru Classé and the 1932 Cru Bourgeois classifications.
Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2017 Sociando-Mallet gives aromas of fragrant earth, herbs and spice cake with a cassis, kirsch and boysenberries core. The palate is medium-bodied, chewy and lean with a rustic finish.--by Robert Parker
Grape varieties:
Merlot (55%), Cabernet Sauvignon (40%) and Cabernet Franc (5%)
