Chateau Rieussec is located in the Sauternes region of Bordeaux, renowned worldwide for producing sweet white wines. The vineyards of Chateau Rieussec are situated on the hills of the villages of Sauternes and Fargues, adjacent to Chateau d'Yquem. As one of the largest estates in Sauternes, Chateau Rieussec's vineyard covers an area of 93 hectares. Chateau Rieussec was classified as a first growth in the 1855 Sauternes and Barsac classification and became part of Domaines Barons de Rothschild Lafite in 1984, marking a significant period of development. In order to fully tap into the terroir potential of Chateau Rieussec, Domaines Barons de Rothschild Lafite constructed new cellars and winemaking facilities, adding modern equipment to the grape sorting and pressing rooms, thereby fully showcasing the potential of Chateau Rieussec.
"Chateau de Rieussec 2008 is made from 86% Semillon, 12% Sauvignon Blanc, and 2% Muscadelle, harvested from September 29 to November 14, with four to five pickings."The last time I encountered it, its aroma seemed to have closed down, with quite a bit of earthy and resinous flavor, lacking some sparkle. The mouthfeel is much better, with flavors of sour lemon and quince at the entrance, along with a hint of pastry. But strangely, in the clear aftertaste, it reminded me of Danish pastries. This 2008 Rieussec is currently a bit hard to fathom, perhaps overshadowed by the subsequent vintages."
Grape varieties:
