【Chateau de Beaucastel Hommage a Jacques Perrin 2020】
An emblematic figure in the Rhône Valley who was at the helm of the Perrin family estates until 1978 and the iconic Château de Beaucastel, Jacques Perrin has established himself as a free-spirited and visionary figure in the wine world. A pioneer, he initiated organic farming in the 1960s and biodynamic farming in 1974. He also decided to bring back the cultivation of Mourvèdre, the emblematic Rhône Valley grape variety. With a unique style and an extraordinary signature taste, the Hommage à Jacques Perrin wine conveys the perfect balance between terroir and grape variety, an expression that is highly sought-after by Jacques Perrin, and is the very epitome of a Grand Vin.
Tasted from foudre, the 2020 Chateauneuf du Pape Hommage à Jacques Perrin is approximately 60% Mourvèdre (from the same parcel, year after year), with the balance a blend of Grenache, Syrah and Counoise. Ripe plums and truffle-like notes mark the nose, while the palate is full-bodied and rich, with a long, velvety finish. Showing even more complexity and length than the regular bottling, there's a chance this could reach a triple-digit score down the road. - Joe Czerwinski, RobertParker.com
