[Chateau Grand Pontet 2018]
Chateau Grand Pontet was acquired by the Becot family from the Barton and Guestier families in 1980. If the surname Becot sounds familiar, it's because they also own the famous classified growths on the right bank of Bordeaux, France—Chateau Beau-Sejour Becot, Chateau La Gomerie in Saint-Emilion, and Chateau Joanin Becot in Cotes de Castillon.
Chateau Grand Pontet is located on the plateau of the western coast of Saint-Émilion, with a vineyard covering 14 hectares, featuring extensive areas of limestone, clay-limestone, and sandy clay. The estate is predominantly Merlot (70%), complemented by Cabernet Franc (17.5%), Cabernet Sauvignon (7.5%), and Malbec (5%).The wine is aged in oak barrels (90% new wood).
The 2018 Grand-Pontet presents a deep purple-black color, starting with a hint of cedar, accompanied by flavors of blackberries, warm plums, and cherry preserves, along with earthy, bramble, and herbal aromas. The wine is full-bodied, filled with earthy black fruit flavors, it has a chewy structure, and finishes a bit hard.
Grape varieties: Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon
