Clos du Marquis, located in the Saint-Julien appellation, is associated with the Second Growth Château Léoville-Las-Cases, the Fifth Growth Château Potensac, and the Pomerol Château Nenin. Theophile Skawinski, the manager of Château Léoville-Las-Cases at the time, acquired a portion of Léoville's shares and later transferred them to his son-in-law, Andre Delon. Subsequently, the financially robust Delon family continued to acquire shares in Léoville, eventually becoming the sole owners of the estate. To highlight the differences in terroir between the various plots, in 1902, Léoville-Las-Cases began vinifying the grapes from Clos du Marquis separately, making it an independent wine brand.
"Clos du Marquis 2011 is extremely gifted, with a deep purple color and a bouquet of pure blackcurrant and black cherry liqueur, mingled with notes of cedar, vanilla, and spice box."With good acidity, ripe tannins, and surprising concentration and depth, this classic St.-Julien excels once again.
Grape variety:
Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Sangiovese, Petit Verdot, Syrah & Alicante
