Y d'Yquem (Ygrec) 2009
Commonly referred to in wine circles as the "Hermès of Bordeaux dry whites," Château d’Yquem "Y" (Ygrec) is the rare dry white expression from the world's only Premier Cru Supérieur estate, Château d'Yquem.
While it originated as a "by-product" of the estate’s legendary noble rot sweet wines, the year 2004 marked a major turning point. From this vintage onward, the estate dedicated itself to crafting "Y" as a deliberate, standalone masterpiece. It is produced only in suitable years, with a limited production of approximately 10,000 bottles. Every vintage is a boutique creation that consistently earns high praise from international critics.
What sets "Y" apart from other Bordeaux dry whites is the inclusion of grapes slightly affected by Botrytis (noble rot). This technique creates a profile that evokes the complexity of Alsace or Burgundy whites while remaining uniquely "Yquem."
Sauvignon Blanc: Harvested at the start of the season from specific plots to ensure perfect ripeness and zero noble rot influence.
Semillon: Harvested only when the grapes reach a "pink" stage—just as noble rot begins to appear—ensuring the potential alcohol level stays below 15%.
A masterpiece of the 2004 Bordeaux solar vintage. Bursting with aromas of mango and guava, it offers a lush, round palate with a hint of noble rot character. The finish reveals notes of marmalade, supported by a grand and powerful structure.
Grape Varieties: 75% Sauvignon Blanc, 25% Semillon
