[Chateau Siran 2014]
Robert Parker Rating: 91/100
Chateau Siran is located in the Margaux region and has been producing red wine since the 17th century. It is one of the few Bordeaux estates that has managed to avoid being sold or acquired. To this day, it is still managed by the Miailhe family, who once owned Pichon Lalande, Palmer, and Dauzac, which speaks to the quality of its winemaking. The biggest feature of Chateau Siran is that, like Chateau Croix Mouton, it designs a new label every year, and this tradition continued until 2005.Since the Miailhe family took over Chateau Siran only in 1859, missing the important 1855 classification, it has been a Margaux estate that Bordeaux has always overlooked. Its style inherits the smoothness and delicacy of Margaux, while also possessing the power, body, and structure of Cab Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. It combines flavors of shrubs, vanilla, licorice, cocoa, and black fruits, making it an exceptionally balanced Margaux wine among its peers.
"Chateau Siran 2014 has a very delicate aroma, with hints of blackberry, bramble, and a faint tertiary bouquet."The precision is very high, appearing somewhat understated compared to the older vintages of Chateau Siran; the body is medium, with delicate tannins and noticeable acidity. The style is linear, with a slightly conservative finish, but it shows freshness from start to finish. The owner of Chateau Siran, Edouard Miailhe, has indeed raised the stakes here; this 2014 vintage is a classic Bordeaux red wine that should be enjoyable from the start."
