[Chateau De Pez 2016]
James Suckling rating: 93/100
Robert Parker rating: 92/100
Chateau de Pez was built in the 15th century and is the oldest winery in Saint Estèphe. The Pontac family also created the Haut-Brion wine and handed over its vineyard to Pez. After the French Revolution, the estate was sold as national property and owned by a series of families, before being acquired by Champagne Louis Roederer in 1995.
Chateau De Pez The 2016 de Pez seems to benefit from the estate's long-term replanting program. It has a pure and beautiful floral aroma, with scents of black cherry and blackcurrant candy, and over time, it also carries a hint of crushed violets. The taste is indeed very lovely: very balanced, with delicate acidity, a salty-sweet mouthfeel, and perhaps the best tannin structure I've encountered in Saint-Estèphe wines over the years, with a long and lingering finish.
Grape variety:
53% Merlot, 42% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3.5% Petit Verdot y 1.5% Cabernet Franc
