[Le Petit Lion du Marquis de Las Cases 2014]
James Suckling rating: 92/100
The vineyard of Chateau Leoville-Las-Cases is located within Saint-Julien, just one village away from one of the five major estates, Chateau Latour. The vineyard covers 97 hectares and has the best vineyard conditions in the entire village.Although Leoville-Las-Cases is renowned for its robust and rich body, this is not the result of prolonged skin contact, but rather the result of the rich and delicate grape fruit, showcased through perfect winemaking techniques. After years of experience, today's Leoville-Las-Cases is able to produce wines of consistently superior quality year after year, regardless of whether it is a good or weak year.Wine writer Lin Yusen further mentioned in "Treasures in the Castle – Bordeaux Wines" that "Chateau Leoville-Las-Cases is the Saint-Julien wine that most resembles Pauillac."More specifically, it is the second Médoc estate that most resembles Château Latour.
"The 2014 Le Petit Lion retains the earthy aroma I mentioned when tasting the Deuxième Vin from this barrel." Tightly wound black fruit flavors, mingled with a faint hint of the briny, shelled oyster shells in the glass. The taste is well-balanced, with smooth tannins, moderate acidity, almost as refreshing as sorbet, slightly tart, but the finish is delightful. This has achieved an admirable result in the bottle."
Grape varieties: 57% Merlot, 38% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 5% Cabernet Franc
