[Madame de Beaucaillou 2019]
James Suckling rating: 92/100
As an iconic building on the Left Bank, Château Ducru-Beaucaillou is undoubtedly one of the most famous wineries in the Bordeaux region. The second growth in the official 1855 classification embodies the perfect example of great Saint-Julien wines. Château Ducru-Beaucaillou was acquired by the Borie family in 1941, named for its extraordinary terroir. Under the leadership of the determined and talented Bruno Borie, Ducru-Beaucaillou has become one of the greatest wines of Saint-Julien.
The wine will be aged in French oak barrels for 12 months, with 20% being new oak barrels. The wine presents a deep pomegranate red color, exuding aromas of plum preserves, blueberry pie, and Morello cherries from the glass, complemented by notes of cinnamon stick, clove oil, candied violets, and Sichuan pepper. The body is medium to full-bodied, with a palate filled with rich black fruit aromas. The texture is soft, and the fresh taste elevates the subtle spiciness to a long finish.
Grape varieties:
68% Merlot, 17% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Petit Verdot, and 2% Cabernet Franc
