[Mazzei Siepi 2020]
James Suckling rating: 98/100
Robert Parker rating: 95/100
The Mazzei family winery has a long history and tradition of winemaking, having started producing wine in 1435, nearly 600 years ago. With 24 generations of heritage, it holds a significant position in the winemaking history of Chianti Classico in Italy, being one of the symbols of the Chianti Classico red wine region and a benchmark in the Tuscany wine industry.
Mazzei 2020 Siepi is a fantastic vintage among a long line of wines, and I had the pleasure of tasting these wines during a complete retrospective last year. The soil in the Siepi vineyard is particularly deep, surrounded by forest to keep it cool. These conditions produce intense aromas of sweet black cherries, bramble, and blue wildflowers. This is a medium to full-bodied Tuscan red wine, showcasing great elegance and depth.
Grape varieties: 50% Merlot, 50% Sangiovese
