[Dalla Valle Maya 2014]
Robert Parker rating: 95/100
Dalla Valle Maya is one of California's five cult wineries, located on the plateau east of Oakville.Maya is the name of one of the vineyards owned by the winery, approximately 25 acres, named after the owner's daughter. But the uniqueness of Maya lies in its blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, particularly emphasizing a high proportion of Cabernet Franc, but not exceeding 50%. Its blending skill is sufficient to stand shoulder to shoulder with the French Château Cheval Blanc.Dalla Valle Maya has an annual production of less than 500 cases, making it a rare gem for wine lovers; older vintages of Maya can almost only be found at auctions.Dalla Valle Maya 2014 is elegant and delicate, filled with the spicy aromas of figs and licorice, complemented by a distinct mineral character, especially the subtle changes that come with aging, which are her everlasting trademarks.
"Dalla Valle Maya 2014 has an incredibly luxurious aroma, including blue and black fruits, forest floor, violets, and subtle notes of scorched earth and gravel, almost like Graves."The palate is full and rich, with excellent structural harmony. It has elements of alcohol, acidity, tannins, and wood, with a moderate sweet tannin finish.Like most worshipped wines, it is a good wine that can be aged for 30 to 35 years; for a 2014 wine, its structure is impressive and surprising."
Grape variety:
