[Les Fiefs de Lagrange 2015]
James Suckling rating: 91/100
Located in Saint-Julien, Chateau Lagrange dates back to 1631, and by 1824, with the opening of the vineyard drainage system, the estate's production significantly increased from 12,000 cases per year to 30,000 cases. After World War II, the winery did not benefit from the golden economic boom in Europe during the following decade. Its wine quality and estate area both suffered a setback until 1983 when the winery was acquired by the Japanese Suntory Group. This marked the first entry of an Asian enterprise into the French wine estate, causing a sensation throughout France and further driving the renovation of the winery's winemaking equipment and the modernization of the vineyards. Suntory Group has held the winery for over 35 years now, and the winery has returned to the glory of being rated as a third growth in the 1855 classification. The famous wine manga "Drops of God" describes Chateau Largrange as "ambitious, harnessing the power of youth, the era of changing the world's wine landscape has arrived."Proving that this effort from the Heisei to the Reiwa era has garnered global attention.
"Les Fiefs de Lagrange 2015 has a medium garnet-purple color, with aromas of blackcurrant, redcurrant, cherry, dried flowers, lavender, and thyme; the medium-bodied palate is delicate and fresh, with soft, ripe tannins and a fragrant finish."
