[Chateau Lagrange 2014]
Robert Parker rating: 92/100
Located in Saint Julien, Chateau Lagrange can be traced back to 1631, and by 1824, thanks to the opening of the vineyard drainage system, the estate's production significantly increased from 12,000 cases per year to 30,000 cases. After World War II, the winery did not benefit from the golden economic boom in Europe during the following decade. Both the quality of the wine and the size of the estate suffered a setback until 1983 when the winery was acquired by the Japanese Suntory Group. This marked the first time an Asian company entered the cultural territory of France, causing a sensation throughout the country and further driving the modernization of the winery's winemaking equipment and vineyards. Suntory Group has held the winery for over 35 years now, and the winery has returned to the glory of being rated as a third growth in the 1855 classification. The famous wine manga "Drops of God" describes Chateau Largrange as "ambitious, using youthful energy, the era of changing the world's wine power structure has arrived."Proving that this effort from the Heisei era to the Reiwa era has garnered global attention.
"Chateau Lagrange 2014 has a medium to deep garnet-purple color and is made from 100% Merlot. Upon opening, it exhibits intense plum aromas, with captivating notes of spice, floral, and chocolate, along with a hint of sage. The body is medium, with firm, chewy tannins, lively acidity, and a vibrant herbal finish."
