[Chateau Haut Brion 2019]
Robert Parker rating: 98/100
Chateau Haut Brion is a winery with a legendary reputation: it is the only one of the 61 classified growths in Bordeaux that is not located in Medoc, and it is also the only top Bordeaux winery that produces both red and white wines.Additionally, although it is the smallest estate among the five great Bordeaux châteaux, it gained fame the earliest.
"Exhibiting a deep garnet purple, it starts off incredibly shy and reticent, requiring quite a bit of coaxing to reveal the flavors of black chocolate-covered cherries, blackberry jam, wood smoke, and sandalwood, before it can transition into a full-blown fireworks display of ironstone, cumin seed, red currant jelly, red rose, oolong tea, and Sichuan pepper, with a hint of cardamom." The medium to full-bodied palate brings the most refined maturity, delicate tannins, and a lively, fresh core, supporting tightly woven, earthy black fruit layers, with a long finish that carries mineral notes. This is one of the most refined and tightly structured wines of the vintage.
