[Chateau de Fonbel 2014]
James Suckling rating: 92/100
Chateau de Fonbel is a winery under Ausone, and Ausone owner Alain Vauthier has taken over. The vineyard management practices have already adopted the Chateau Ausone system. But in terms of price, it is much more affordable, so experts in the wine industry jokingly refer to it as the "Chateau Ausone for the masses."
"This 2014 vintage has floral and fruity aromas, with hints of violet and rose petals. Good scent, medium to full-bodied, with ultra-fine tannins and linear refinement. Notes of chalk and salt. The blend is very cool. Merlot is the main grape, followed by Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenere, and Petit Verdot. It's good now, but will be even better starting in 2020."
Grape variety:
80% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Petit Verdot, 5% Carmenere.
