Robert Parker rating: 92/100
Almaviva is a renowned wine brand located in Chile's Maipo Valley, one of the most prestigious wines in Chile. In the tradition of top Bordeaux estates, Almaviva also produces a second wine called EPU (meaning "Two" in Mapudungun).Almaviva wine is aged in French oak barrels for about 18 to 20 months. In recent years, there is usually about 70% to 80% new wood.
One of Chile's four wine kings, Almaviva's "alive spirit" second label wine, comes from the same Puente Alto vineyard as the flagship wine, but the vines are younger. The weather in 2020 was warm and dry, making the grapes more mature. The Almaviva EPU 2020 has an alcohol content of 14.8%, but the fruitiness, acidity, tannins, and other elements are very well balanced. The aroma of red fruits is fresh and rich, with abundant tannins. It can be enjoyed right away or aged for a few more years.
Grape varieties: 81% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Carmenere, 5% Merlot, and 2% Cabernet Franc
