[DRC Romanee St. Vivant 2005]
Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, or better known as DRC, is undoubtedly the most famous and collectible wine producer in Burgundy. The estate is located in the village of Vosne-Romanée in Burgundy and sells wines from eight different grand cru vineyards that span the entire Côte d'Or. The most famous comes from the eponymous Romanée-Conti vineyard, which is on average the most expensive wine in the world.
Just as this year's Echezeaux challenged the quality of Grands-Echezeaux, another surprise of the vintage was the stunning performance of the 2005 Romanee-St.-Vivant. The stunningly deep, mouthwatering mix of purple plum jam, blackberry preserves, bitter chocolate, roasted walnuts, soy, and raw beef captivates the nose. On the palate, this wine reveals its dark side, with sticky, melt-in-your-mouth lightly ripe black fruits, charred meat, the complexity of mysterious forest floor, and bittersweet floral aromas, while also delivering a vibrant finish, just like the lively wine. Grands-Echezeaux. With its pronounced extract, profound personality, and refined yet rich tannins, this wine is undoubtedly worth cellaring for at least ten years.
