[Chateau Ducru Beaucaillou 2005]
Robert Parker rating: 97/100
Chateau Ducru Beaucaillou is named after the beautiful stones found in its unique soil, with "Beaucaillou" meaning "beautiful stone."Unlike other Bordeaux wineries, Chateau Ducru Beaucaillou is built directly above the cellars where the wine is stored, allowing the residents here to be immersed in the lingering aroma of wine every night. Chateau Ducru Beaucaillou borders the southern part of Pauillac, adjacent to the Beychevelle plateau and near Margaux. Therefore, some people believe that the terroir characteristics of Chateau Ducru Beaucaillou are influenced by its geographical location, resulting in a combination of elegance and texture in its terroir. In some vintages, it can even rival first-growth estates.
The color of the 2000 Ducru-Beaucaillou is very deep.It has a fairly intense aroma of black cherries, blackberries, plums, and figs, with a medium body and saturated tannins. The body is robust, but not muscular; the backbone is solid, with strong tannin grain, black fruit flavors with a hint of licorice, a tight finish, almost with a menthol taste.
Grape variety:
67% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot
