[Domaine de la Commaraine Pommard 1er Cru Clos de la Commaraine 2021]
Domaine de la Commaraine is a 3.63-hectare estate, with its castle having existed since the 12th century, deeply rooted in the history of Burgundy wine production.
For centuries, the wines produced by this estate have been renowned worldwide, being a favorite of American President Thomas Jefferson during his visit to the castle in 1787.
Past writers like Danquy and Aubertin boasted of its excellence in their book "Les Grands vins de Bourgogne": "Among the most famous climates, let us first mention La Commaraine."
Domaine de la Commaraine was acquired in 2017 by Denise Dupré and Mark Nunelly, who aim to restore the wine to its former glory and make it one of the great premier crus of Côte de Beaune.
This large, walled vineyard is insulated from outside influences, making it ideal for organic and biodynamic farming—work that is now underway.
Soil scientist and geologist Pedro Parra visited the plot for research, and it has now been divided along geological lines into eight subplots; these will be farmed and vinified separately.
With this exceptional wine tradition, Domaine de la Commaraine will once again shine in the Burgundian wine estate sky.
Rich aromas of wild berries and raspberries, mingled with notes of orange peel, wood smoke, and toasted oak. The acidity and melting tannins bring a fragrant and clear finish. The mouthfeel is medium to full-bodied, with a rich texture, full-bodied taste, and juiciness.
