[Cardinale 2014]
Robert Parker rating: 98/100
In 1983, Jess Jackson, the owner of Kendall-Jackson Winery, decided to produce world-class Meritage red wine. This name comes from the original Cardinale vineyard of the Kendall-Jackson Lakeport winery. This wine is primarily a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and a small amount of Merlot, with some vintages also including Petit Verdot. The grapes are sourced from hillside vineyards in Napa Valley and Sonoma County. The wine is aged in 100% new French oak barrels to produce avant-garde, seamless oak characteristics that match its rich fruit flavors.
After the inky purple, stunning cedar wood, unsmoked cigar tobacco, graphite, blackcurrant, and subtle new oak aromas, comes a multi-layered, deeply concentrated, large-scale wine, where blackcurrant fruitiness and blackberry flavors intertwine. This wine is very rich, with smooth tannins and moderate acidity. It is clearly one of the greatest wines of the vintage and yet another masterpiece from Cardinale.
Grape variety:
88% Cabernet Sauvignon y 12% Merlot
