[Chateau Croizet Bages 2016]
Robert Parker rating: 91/100
James Suckling rating: 93/100
Chateau Croizet-Bages is located in Pauillac, one of the four famous villages in Bordeaux, Medoc, France, and is a fifth growth estate in France. The vineyard of the estate covers approximately 28.5 hectares and is situated on a complete and continuous plot of land on the Bages plateau. The soil in the vineyard is composed of gravel, limestone, and sandy soil. The complex and diverse soil types, along with the deep soil layers, provide excellent conditions for Chateau Croizet-Bages to produce high-quality red wine. Chateau Croizet Bages always manages to showcase the terroir characteristics of Pauillac, possessing wonderful fruit flavors, a medium body, tight and refined structure, chewy tannins, and a fresh finish.
The 2016 Croizet Bages has a clean, clear aroma with a tobacco-like black fruit flavor, conservative yet well-defined.The palate has a medium body, with solid and grainy tannins. It exhibits some elegance in the finish, which I like, but this style is not always found in this Pauillac wine. It is likely to mature into a fine 2016 vintage, potentially being drinkable earlier compared to other years. But it has a sense of authenticity in its style.
