[Domaine Bruno Clavelier Vosne Romanée 1er Cru Les Beaux Monts 2016]
The story of the estate is one of family tradition and innovation. Its history can be traced back to the 18th century, with its development core beginning in the 1930s. During this period and the following 20 years, Bruno's grandfather, organic farming pioneer Joseph Brosson, sold bulk wine to wine merchant Antoine Clavelier, who happened to be Bruno's grandfather. After becoming a professional rugby player, Bruno obtained a degree in winemaking and apprenticed under Joseph for ten years. He took over the winery in 1987 and, with his father's help, began bottling wine under his own name in 1992. Although the family plots remained at the heart of the estate, Bruno still spent time and effort on development—most notably, he built a new winery using modern materials, expanded the cellar to accommodate the aging of two vintages simultaneously, and integrated a new bottling production line. He also acquired more vineyards, and today the estate covers a total area of 6.5 hectares. Most of the winery's vineyards were planted in the 1930s and 1940s with traditional Pinot Noir Fin, using the ancient method of hand-selecting cuttings from the best vineyards. Bruno Winery has been certified organic since 2005 and adheres to biodynamic principles. He refers to his farming method as "traditional," which he defines as "using a small amount of organic materials and a lot of physical labor."
The nose reminds us of a bouquet of crisp red berries. The intense aromas of cherries and Morello cherries blend with subtle notes of roasting and baking. The beautiful, harmonious, and powerful structure is a typical characteristic of this region.
