[Chateau Beychevelle 2019]
Robert Parker rating: 94/100
Located in Saint-Julien, Chateau Beychevelle is a renowned Bordeaux Fourth Growth estate, whose characteristics have been refined over three centuries. In 1587, the estate belonged to Duc D’Epernon, the governor of the Bordeaux region at the time, who later became the commander-in-chief of the French Navy. "Beychevelle" evolved from the French word Baisse-Voile (lower the sail), and legend has it that ships passing by the vineyard had to lower their sails in respect for this nobleman.
Chateau Beychevelle 2018 presents a deep garnet purple color, with aromas wafting from the glass, exuding scents of Black Forest cake, floral notes, star anise, fennel, and black tea, centered around black raspberries, warm blackcurrants, and cherry liqueur, with a hint of fallen leaves and lavender. The body is full, filled with fragrant layers of red and black fruits, with a tight texture. The velvety texture and wonderful freshness enhance the very long finish.
