[Chateau Beychevelle 2016]
Robert Parker rating: 95/100
Located in Saint-Julien, Chateau Beychevelle is a renowned Bordeaux Fourth Growth estate, whose characteristics have been refined over three centuries. In 1587, the estate belonged to Duc D’Epernon, the governor of the Bordeaux region at the time, who later became the commander-in-chief of the French Navy. "Beychevelle" evolved from the French word Baisse-Voile (lower the sail), and legend has it that ships passing by the vineyard had to lower their sails in respect for this nobleman.
Medium to deep garnet purple, a bit dull at first, it slowly opens up to reveal subtle savory notes of dried herbs, cured meats, and black olives, then breaks through to warm blackcurrant, roasted black plum, redcurrant jelly, and candied violet. The palate has a medium body, delicately playing a quiet intensity, with tightly woven nuances and a wonderful freshness, finishing with an enduring salinity.
Grape variety:
47% Cabernet Sauvignon, 47% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot, 1% Cabernet Franc
Under the law of Hong Kong, intoxicating liquor must not be sold or supplied to a minor in the course of business.
