[Chateau Beychevelle 2015]
James Suckling rating: 94/100
Located in Saint-Julien, Chateau Beychevelle is a renowned Bordeaux Fourth Growth estate, whose characteristics have been refined over three centuries. In 1587, the estate belonged to Duc D’Epernon, the governor of the Bordeaux region at the time, who later became the commander-in-chief of the French Navy. "Beychevelle" evolved from the French term Baisse-Voile (lower the sail), and legend has it that ships passing by the estate had to lower their sails in respect for the nobleman. Duc D’Epernon was very fond of this, so he decided that the estate's emblem would depict a dragon ship with its sails half lowered, and he named the estate "Beychevelle."The wine label features the mythical creature "Griffin," which guards the wine cellar for the wine god, as the figurehead of the ship.In addition, Duke D’Epernon also built a luxurious palace, which has been preserved to this day.The architecture is magnificent, with a grand triangular wall at the top, flanked by wing-shaped carvings on both sides, adorned with spiral floral patterns and bottle-shaped decorations, creating a Baroque classical architectural style for the winery.
"Chateau Beychevelle 2015 is a red wine full of aroma and brightness." Fresh flowers, currants, and blueberries. Some citrus. The wine has a full body, firm yet smooth tannins, and a long, pleasant aftertaste. Very delicate and vivid. 2022 is even better."
