[Chateau Angelus 2010]
Robert Parker rating: 99+/100
Château Angélus is a renowned wine estate located in the Saint-Émilion region in the northeast of Bordeaux. The property is situated in a coveted location to the west of the town of Saint-Émilion, on a gentle south-facing slope of the Saint-Émilion plateau. It produces a luxurious, long-lived Merlot-Cabernet Franc wine that is often highly rated by critics. The grand wine is aged in new oak barrels for about 18 months before bottling. Then, it will be stored in the bottle for at least five years before being released, but due to the concentration, weight, and structure of Angélus, which usually allow the wine to evolve over decades, it can be aged for a longer period.
The color of Chateau Angelus 2010 is similar to that of 2009, but it might be even more opaque, which seems almost impossible. Subtle notes of toasted smoke, graphite, blackberry liqueur, licorice, and chocolate leap from the glass, with the wine delivering a thunderous sweetness, velvety, rich black fruit flavors, clear tannins, and moderate acidity. This wine has a solemn, multi-layered finish that lasts for a minute. This gorgeous wine is still very young, still a bit unformed, but it is as stunning as its 2009 counterpart."
Grape variety:
55% Merlot, 45% Cabernet Franc
