The vineyard area in the Haut-Médoc region is approximately 4,300 hectares, comparable to the Médoc region, but its terroir is quite different from that of the Médoc region. The soils here are diverse, including both gravelly soils and clay soils.Here, there are five classified growths (Cru Classe) and numerous crus bourgeois.
