[Chateau Ducru Beaucaillou 2000]
Robert Parker rating: 98/100
Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, or better known as DRC, is undoubtedly the most famous and collectible wine producer in Burgundy. The estate is located in the village of Vosne-Romanée in Burgundy and sells wines from eight different grand cru vineyards that span the entire Côte d'Or. The most famous is from the eponymous Romanée-Conti vineyard, which is on average the most expensive wine in the world.
From the 2006 Romanee-Conti glass, you will experience an extraordinary and intense aroma. Rose petals, griotte cherries, almond extract, mint, and cinnamon once again remind me of the typical Pinot Noir and Pommard soup. The extraordinary aroma and spices continue in the mouth, combining with a silky texture (as if the tannins automatically dissolve); pure, fresh, but not at all cloying cherry and raspberry essence; and deep, marrow-like meatiness along with the taste of truffles and forest floor. One could say that the centerpiece of this story is—despite being much more subtle than its Richebourg siblings—from perfume and fruit to almost sinister animal and mineral hints. The finish here is both ethereal and profound, dark and mysterious, like an elusive harmony at the limits of audibility. I suspect it will also outlive the other wines of this estate and vintage.
